How Michigan's Economic Malaise has Affected Construction Industry Operations

The overall construction industry in Michigan, as elsewhere, is very fragmented. In Michigan, as of March 31, 2008, about 25,900 organizations with employees on their payroll (proprietorships, partnerships, chapter œS corporations and conventional corporate entities) were listed as performing some type of construction trades function. As it is very difficult to directly collect, tabulate, and report on a timely basis information about the operations of such a large and diverse number of organizations, other sources must be referenced. That means using data gather by the U. S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the Bureau of the Census, the Bureau of Economic Analysis, CAM's News Department, and other select sources to put together the information set forth in accompanying charts.
